The final photo before all hell broke loose for us... And the story of that day continues...
After 7 long hours of chasing this storm, we finally called it quits after reaching the outskirts of Aberdeen, SD. We were all exhausted and dirty, our heads swimming with the day's events, and our hearts in our shoes. Talk about a really bad chase. But like I said before, it could have been worse. We could have been one of those chasers stuck in the mud or we could have died.
Always, ALWAYS remember this, storm chasing is inherently dangerous. You never know what's going to happen or how a storm is going to behave. Don't just rely on radar to get you out of the situation because sometimes, as we found out the hard way, you might not be able to get reception. Look with your eyes and have an escape route ready just in case you have to bail. We failed in that respect as well.
Looking back at this day, I will never forget the lessons it's taught me. I hope you take away those same lessons without having to go through it yourselves. Be a responsible chaser and always be careful.
